Abstract:

The study wants to show how prejudice is activated in social groups, how antisemitism and philosemitism intensify in cases when a public statue presents a person who was divisive in past and nowadays. The attempt to unveil the statue took place in the village of Nemeshodos in Slovakia, there was a significant Jewish community before the Holocaust. Today, the settlement is predominantly inhabited by Hungarians, but the Jewish community still operates in the area, primarily in Dunaszerdahely. The topic is sensitive to everyone in the region. The study examines the reactions of individual organizations and political groups, and sometimes their position, and how it is communicated through the internet media or in social networks.
