The journal Stredoeur\u00f3pske poh\u013eady<\/em><\/strong> (Central European Views<\/em>, <\/strong>ISSN 2644-6367, e-ISSN 2644-6472) is a peer-reviewed Open Access Journal published by the Institute of Central European languages and Cultures at the Faculty of Central European Studies Constantine the Philosopher University<\/a> in Nitra.<\/p>\n

Scope and Scholarly Profile<\/strong><\/p>\n

The journal focuses on research into the languages, literatures, cultures, media, and historical and social contexts of Central Europe. Its distinctive contribution lies in approaching Central Europe not merely as a geographically defined territory, but as a historically changing cultural area shaped by long-term contacts among languages, ethnic groups, religions, and cultural traditions. The journal\u2019s profile provides a platform for interdisciplinary research into phenomena that cannot be adequately addressed within the boundaries of individual national philologies alone. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Central European Focus and International Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

The journal\u2019s title and scholarly focus are grounded in theoretical approaches to Central Europe. Although the boundaries of Central Europe are not defined uniformly in scholarly literature, a number of authors regard the territories of present-day Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary as forming the historical and cultural core of the region.<\/p>\n

The journal\u2019s Central European profile does not imply that its scope is limited to the countries of the Visegrad Group (V4). The history and culture of this region cannot be studied without taking into account German, Austrian, French, Jewish, Balkan, and other European influences, nor without considering contemporary research on Central Europe conducted at universities and research institutions in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and elsewhere. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Language and Publication Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Publishing not only in English but also in Slovak, Czech, Hungarian, and Polish is an integral part of the journal\u2019s scholarly profile. In the humanities and social sciences, a regional language is not merely a means of communicating research findings; it is often also the language of the material under study, scholarly terminology, and cultural memory. Research into literature, historical sources, language contact, minority cultures, or media necessarily engages with nuances of meaning that cannot always be transferred into English without some loss. Retaining Central European languages in scholarly communication should therefore not be understood as a form of insularity, but as a prerequisite for methodological precision. At the same time, it contributes to preserving the linguistic and cultural diversity of European scholarship. International accessibility is supported by English-language titles, abstracts, keywords, and other bibliographic metadata accompanying the published articles. <\/strong><\/p>\n

International Editorial and Peer-Review Network<\/strong><\/p>\n

The international character of the journal is not based solely on the use of English. It is also reflected in the thematic scope of the published studies, its openness to authors from Slovakia and abroad, the geographical diversity of its Editorial Board, and the interaction of different national scholarly traditions. The Editorial Board includes scholars from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, T\u00fcrkiye, and the United States. This composition reflects the journal\u2019s comparative and area-studies orientation and provides a basis for the independent assessment of submissions in different languages and subject areas.<\/p>\n

The peer-review process is not restricted to members of the Editorial Board. Other scholars from Slovakia and abroad are also invited to review submissions and are selected on the basis of their expertise and the subject matter of the individual study. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Support for Early-Career Researchers and Doctoral Students<\/strong><\/p>\n

The journal also provides an important publication platform for early-career researchers, doctoral students, and scholars working at smaller or regionally oriented academic institutions. Supporting these groups does not entail lowering scholarly standards. All research articles undergo the same double-anonymised peer-review process and are assessed according to their originality, methodological soundness, strength of argumentation, and contribution to the relevant field.<\/p>\n
